- Practice skills and deepen expertise in facilitating others in non-ordinary states of consciousness.
- Forge alliances with fellow colleagues in the field, encouraging “cross pollination” and unity in the industry
Retreat highlights
ALL INCLUSIVE
THREE MUSHROOM SESSIONS
PREP & INTEGRATION
We provide virtual and in-person group sessions to prepare for the journey within, and to teach you integration techniques. We’ll also include feedback on your facilitation skills.
BEAUTIFUL NATURE
Disconnect from the noise and plug into yourself. All of our retreat locations are in beautiful surroundings.
TRADITIONAL SWEAT LODGE
SMALL GROUP SIZE
We limit the size of each group to ensure that you get individualized support. Don’t be surprised if you make friends that last a lifetime!
The Medicine
A minimum of three dosing sessions will be offered over the course of the week. Most students facilitate for one session and then take the medicine twice, but it’s up to you!
We welcome all dose ranges – from microdoses to heroic journeys. Instruction in lemon tek, boosters, and other techniques will be provided and demonstrated.
Temazcal Ceremony
The traditional Mexican sweat lodge is called Temazcal. The ceremony held within the womb-like space of the temazcal connects us not only to nature, but also to ourselves, each other, and the ancient Mesoamerican traditions of the land.
Leadership Opportunity
As we co-create our container of transformation, each participant (that’s you!) will have the opportunity to lead an activity.
Don’t worry – we create a judgement free space for you to refine your skills and practice talking in front of a group. This retreat is a safe space for embracing imperfection and overcoming fears.
Opportunities include leading a morning movement session, a guided meditation, sharing a poem, teaching the group a song, smudging the others before ceremony, playing an instrument, etc.
Change that Lasts
Integration helps us organize the information and emotions accessed during ceremony, so that we don’t have to keep running back to substances.
To enrich your personal healing and professional development, our experienced staff will demonstrate a few different models of integration. (Exact disciplines vary, depending on staff.)
One virtual group integration call is also included after the retreat for continued support.
Tuition:
Price varies from event-to-event, depending on the venue. We can accommodate budget events, luxurious villa experiences with Michelin chefs, and everything in between.
Note: For compliance purposes, the medicine itself is transported, handled, and administered by a local curandero; remuneration happens separately as an optional donation.
All Inclusive:
Get a plane ticket; we’ll do the rest.

Sample Training Schedule
Below is a sample schedule for a 6-day, 60-hour practicum retreat. Three psilocybin medicine sessions typically occur during the week. Students can decide how many times they’d like to journey and facilitate during the week. Students will also be asked to lead a group activity (eg: stretching, chanting, guided meditation, etc.)
The Journey Begins.
Before the retreat, we’ll provide you with travel guidelines and practical tips. We’ll also have a virtual group call for Q&A and brief introductions.
The day the retreat begins, we’ll begin with an early evening arrival and settling in. After dinner followed we’ll have an opening ceremony, container agreements, and introductions.
Day 2
Morning movement and breakfast. Morning session includes intentions, “how to trip” preparation support, and plenty of time for questions before half of you you prepare your nest and embark upon mushroom session #1 in the afternoon. The other half of the students will facilitate for their colleagues. Dinner awaits everyone at the end of the day.
Day 3
After morning movement and breakfast, we come together to reflect upon and integrate yesterday’s journey. We then prepare ourselves for mushroom session #2, in which those who haven’t journeyed yet will have the chance, while the others support them. The day ends with dinner.
Day 4
After morning movement and breakfast, we unpack the lessons from yesterday’s mushroom trip and mine the gold. Student facilitators will then receive feedback. The late afternoon is for lunch, resting, integrating, and relaxing before we head into mushroom session #3, which happens at night in the context of a group ceremony. A late-night meal awaits us afterwards.
Day 5
After sleeping in and having a late breakfast, we’ll pull out the art supplies for an art therapy-focused group integration session. Lunch and downtime will prepare us for the temazcal sweat lodge ceremony, which will help us work up a good appetite for dinner and help you get a good night’s sleep.
Day 6
After morning movement and breakfast, we’ll host a beautiful closing ceremony in which we can thank ourselves and one another for the powerful work we’ve done during the week. We’ll then hop into the shuttle van, go forth, and prosper!
A week or two later we’ll meet online for one last group integration session.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
I’ve never done any psychedelic substance before. Can I still come?
Yes, absolutely! We welcome both first-timers and experienced cosmonauts.
If you haven’t taken the medicine before and you have not completed any formal training in facilitation, however, we recommend you join us for a regular Healing Retreat before training with us on a Practicum Retreat.
Do I need to be enrolled in a formal training program to attend the practicum retreat?
For our practicum retreats, registration prioirty is given to those who are concurrently enrolled in or who have graduated from a licensed psilocybin facilitator training program.
Secondary priority is given to those who are already practicing.
All others have tertiary priority.
If you have no formal training or experience, then please consider joining us as a healing retreat guest instead. The best place to start learning is through your own inner work!
Do I have to take the medicine to come?
No. We will never bully you into taking a substance if it doesn’t feel right or safe for you to do so.
That being said, doing personal healing work with the medicine is one of the best ways to deepen your understanding of the work, develop your relationship with the medicine, and tune your facilitation skills. We’ll help create a judgement-free zone to dip your toes in, if you’re ready.
Do I have to facilitate to get practicum credit?
Yes. This is a non negotiable. You must facilitate in some capacity under our supervision in order for us to grant you practicum or consultation credit hours.
How do I get practicum credit?
As of this writing, both Oregon and Colorado require that practicum training happen within those two states in the USA only.
You’re absolutely welcome to come and get more hands-on experience for your own enrichment, but the experience likely will NOT count towards your program graduation requirements.
Can I get consultation hours for Colorado?
Yes! Please keep track of your own hours; we’ll sign off on your form at the end of the retreat. Note you can only receive credit for the hours in which you are directly facilitating.
I take antidepressant medication. Do I have to taper off my meds to attend?
Not necessarily! We welcome people who are on psychiatric medication, though we do ask that you consult a healthcare provider prior to attending this retreat to double-check the safety. Also note we make no guarantees that folks on medication will necessarily “launch” – though they usually do.
One option is to schedule an appointment with one of our colleagues prior to proceeding. They can answer any questions you may have, and address concerns.
Can my spouse, sweetheart, sibling, family member, or friend come with me?
Absolutely!
We request that any interpersonal challenges or breakthroughs be shared with the circle so as to avoid “bubbles” or “cliques” from forming.
Non-participants are welcome to drop you off and pick you up from the retreat, but only registered retreat participants may stay on the premises during the retreat.
Exceptions are made for individuals with disabilities who require medical assistance.
How many people will be on the retreat? How many staff?
We limit the group size to ensure potency and individualized care: our maximum capacity is 16 guests per retreat. We aim to have at least 1 staff member per 2 guests during dosing sessions.
(On practicums, we staff according to the number of people dosing each day; not the total number of participants.)
I’ve never been to Mexico before. Is it safe?
Foreigners sometimes fear Mexico. While danger is always a risk, and while certain parts of the country should be avoided, the places that tourists venture and the retreat location are typically safe – safer than most cities in the USA, in fact.
As with any place, it’s a good idea to travel in groups if possible, explore during the daytime, and stay mindful of pickpockets.
The scary news about violent crime in Mexico is almost always in border towns. We will be far, far away from the border.
How's the weather?
Mexico is a large country that spans several different climates.
The jungle setting for this retreat is at 2,000 ft, so we’ll stay cooler and more comfortable than the folks in Puerto Vallarta proper.
Why come to Mexico versus Oregon or Colorado?
Doing this work abroad allows us to customize the experience to each participant’s needs, with less red tape and lower overheads. It also allows us to weave in the traditions of the local culture.
Do I have to lead an activity?
Yes. Leading a group activity is a requirement to complete this training. If you struggle with social anxiety to such a degree that you cannot speak in front of your colleagues, then the regular Healing Retreat would be a better place to begin.
Is this work legal in Mexico?
Psilocybin mushrooms have a rich history of use in Mexico among indigenous people.
Article 195 bis of the Federal Penal Code respects the use of mushrooms for traditional spiritual practices or ceremonies, and members our staff include indigenous Mexicans.
Who should NOT attend this retreat?
There are some folks who we are not set up to support at this time. They include:
- Individuals who are particularly dysregulated, frightened and/or in need of more gradual, one-on-one support;
- Individuals who need a lot of special exceptions or a highly controlled environment;
- Individuals who are unable to stop using substances like alcohol, cannabis, opiates, etc. for at least one week before the retreat begins and for the whole duration of the retreat;
- Those who need a very particular, strict diet (eg: dedicated gluten free kitchen, low FODMAPs, low histamine diets);
- Those who recently discontinued a psychiatric medication abruptly and have not fully stabilized;
- Those with entitled, socially preachy, or otherwise “high maintenance” personalities who are unwilling to examine these defense mechanisms;
- Those with medical contraindications to taking psychedelics
Can I get a discount? Do you offer payment plans?
A deposit of 33% of the total retreat fee is required at the time of registration.
We do offer payment plans, but require that the retreat fee is paid in full at least one month prior to the start of the retreat.
Depending on how many donations we receive, we may have some scholarship opportunities available – this varies from retreat to retreat.
How do I pay for the medicine?
To stay in compliance with all rules and regulations, the retreat fee does not include the medicine itself.
The medicine is transported, handled, and administered by a local curandero or marakame, whom you will pay directly. (We’ll provide more details upon registration, but don’t wory – it’s very affordable.)
What are the Container Agreements?
Something that sets Right to Heal apart from other retreats is our emphasis on container.
“Container” refers to the safe and supportive space in which guests can express and explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
It’s an essential element to the healing process. For this reason, all participants are required to respect our Container Agreements, which include:
- Confidentiality. I will hold in confidence the identities of the other participants and the personal nature of their healing work. I will ask for permission before posting photos of others to social media.
- Touch. All touch offered and given this week will be non-sexual in nature. (Exception: already established partners attending the Event together may engage in consensual touch.) I will respect the boundaries of others and ask first before delivering hugs, shoulder rubs, etc.
- Premises. I agree to stay on the premises for the entire duration of the event, unless explicitly given permission by an Event Leader. I also agree to stay within the defined ceremony space during medicine-assisted Activities.
- Platonic Healing. I agree not to run romantic energy with anybody else at the Event, for the duration of the entire Event. (Exception: already established partners attending the Event together.)
- Self Care. I will ask for what I need and speak up when I feel unsafe. I will not participate in Activities that I deem to be harmful for my wellbeing.
- Safety. I understand that the safety word is “Safety.” When I hear this word, I will immediately stop whatever I am doing, focus, and follow instructions. This is for my own safety, as well as for the safety of others. Likewise, if I deem that something dangerous is occurring during the Activities, I understand that I can likewise call “safety” for both myself and others.
- Personal Growth. I remember that I am here for the purposes of healing and personal growth, and that such processes often entail confronting parts of myself and others that may be uncomfortable. I agree that the Event staff may remind me of this throughout the week, and understand that they may help me see when I am deflecting, projecting, or acting out of alignment.
- Group Healing. I understand that the healing that happens in groups is different than one-on-one or solo work. I agree to respect the process of other individuals, as it may be quite different than my own. I agree not to touch or speak to other participants during the Group Medicine Ceremony.
- Judgement. I will be mindful of my own judgements and projections as they arise, and when they do, I will choose kindness.
- Attitude of Learning. I understand that there is no such thing as perfection, and that the Event staff and other participants may say or do things I dislike. I understand that this is all part of the learning – both mine and theirs.
- Phone. I will prioritize connection with myself, nature, and others. I will keep the use of my phone/devices to a minimum. I will not bring my phone to meals or group activities.
