Welcome, Brother.
Emotionally mature men have the power to heal humanity’s deepest wounds.
Join us for a luxury retreat to explore emotions, heal wounds, and more fully claim your life.
This shared experience fosters brotherhood and support, breaking down the societal norms that inhibit vulnerability, integrity, and growth.
Creating change that lasts
Founded by a family doctor, Rise Up Journeys’ retreats are designed to create deep healing and transformation that lasts.
Psilocybin mushrooms have been used since at least 5,000 BCE for spiritual and medicinal purposes. A recent boom in the research demonstrates the healing potential of these friendly fungi.
Our team of caring, highly experienced therapists, doctors, and facilitators have witnessed the far-reaching effects of psilocybin. We’ve helped clients get through existential crisis, treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction. We also welcome people who are overall happy in life and want to explore their spirituality more deeply.
The Medicine
Three psilocybin-assisted healing sessions will be offered over the course of the retreat. Most guests take the mushrooms three times, but there is no pressure to do so.
The first two sessions happen during the day, with each person having their own space on the property.
The third session is at night, in the context of a group ceremony.
We utilize all ranges – from microdoses to heroic launches. Lemon tek, boosters, and other techniques will also be used as needed.
We do not enforce any upper limit, making this retreat a good choice for those who have never “broken through” before, or who are on anti-depressant medication. We also welcome first-timers who would like to start low and go slow.
The Temazcal
The traditional Mexican sweat lodge is called the Temazcal. The ceremony held within the womb-like space of the temazcal connects us not only to nature, but also to the ancient Mexica traditions of the land.
Through breathing the aromatic steam of medicinal herbs, singing, and sweating, we experience purification and spiritual renewal. The heat from the volcanic stones in the temazcal promotes physical and spiritual well-being.
The temazcal also gives us the gifts of community and shared rituals, fostering unity and connection.
Beyond Integration
Integration helps us organize the information and emotions accessed during ceremony. Integration allows us to make the most sense and meaning out of our experiences, so that we don’t have to keep running back to the substance itself for guidance.
It is often during group integration that guests experience their “Aha!” moments. That’s why we hold group integration the day after every medicine session.
Understanding that we all synthesize information in different ways, our experienced staff will draw from different counseling modalities, including talking, working with the body, and making art.
Retreat Itinerary
Day 1
Late afternoon arrival, settling in, and dinner. Opening ceremony, container agreements, introductions.
Day 2
Morning movement and breakfast. Morning session includes intentions, “how to trip” preparation support, and plenty of time for questions before you prepare your nest and embark upon mushroom session #1 in the afternoon. Dinner awaits you once you’re back.
Day 3
After morning movement and breakfast, we come together to reflect upon and integrate yesterday’s journey. We then prepare ourselves for mushroom session #2, in which we can continue the work started in session #1. The day ends with dinner.
Day 4
After morning movement and breakfast, we unpack the lessons from yseterday’s mushroom trip and mine the gold up until lunchtime. The afternoon is for resting, integrative, and relaxing before we head into mushroom session #3, which happens at night in the context of a group ceremony blessed with local traditions. A late-night meal awaits us afterwards.
Day 5
After sleeping in and having a late breakfast, we’ll pull out the art supplies for an art therapy-focused group integration session. Lunch and downtime will prepare us for the temazcal sweat lodge ceremony, which will help us work up a good appetite for dinner and help you get a good night’s sleep.
Day 6
After morning movement and breakfast, we’ll host a beautiful closing ceremony in which we can thank ourselves and one another for the powerful work we’ve done during the week. The shuttle vans will arrive and we’ll go forth and prosper!
A week or two later we’ll meet online for one last group integration session.
Why heal in a group?
It’s simple: there are layers of healing that can’t be accessed in isolation or through one-on-one therapy. As social creatures, many of our wounds have to do with relationship, tribe, and our sense of belonging. It is often only through relationship that we can fully heal.
Throughout history, psilocybin mushrooms have been consumed in group settings. Although we create privacy for each guest, we also encourage participants to bear witness to one another’s healing, and to likewise let themselves be witnessed by others.
You don’t have to do this alone. It’s okay if it gets messy. We’ve got you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
I’ve never taken a psychedelic before. Can I still come?
Yes, absolutely! We welcome both first-timers and experienced cosmonauts.
I take antidepressant medication. Do I have to taper off my meds to attend?
Not necessarily! We welcome people who are on psychiatric medication, though we do ask that you consult a healthcare provider prior to attending this retreat to double-check the safety.
You may also schedule an appointment with an RTH consultant prior to proceeding.
Can my partner, sibling, family member, or friend come with me?
If you choose to attend this retreat loved ones, we will respect that choice and welcome you all. We reserve the right to assign you separate bedrooms, however.
We request that any interpersonal challenges or breakthroughs be shared with the circle so as to avoid “bubbles” or “cliques” from forming.
Non-participants are welcome to drop you off and pick you up from the retreat, but only registered retreat participants may stay on the premises during the retreat.
Exceptions are made for individuals with disabilities who require medical assistance.
How many people will be on the retreat? How many staff?
We limit the group size to ensure potency and individualized care: our maximum capacity is 12 guests.
We aim to have at least 1 staff member per 2 guests during dosing sessions.
I’ve never been to Mexico before. Is it safe?
Foreigners sometimes fear Mexico. While danger is always a risk, and while certain parts of the country should be avoided, the places that tourists venture within Mexico City and the retreat location are typically safe.
As with any place, it’s a good idea to travel in groups if possible, explore during the daytime, and stay mindful of pickpockets.
The scary news about violent crime in Mexico is almost always in border towns. We will be in Central Mexico – far, far away from the border.
Why come to Mexico versus Oregon or Colorado?
Doing this work abroad allows us to customize the experience to each participant’s needs, with less red tape and lower overheads. It also allows us to weave in the traditions of the local culture.
Is this work legal in Mexico?
Psilocybin mushrooms have a rich history of use in Mexico among indigenous people.
Article 195 bis of the Federal Penal Code respects the use of mushrooms for traditional spiritual practices or ceremonies, and members our staff include indigenous Mexicans.
Similar retreats of lesser quality cost much more than this one. What’s the catch?
The cost-effective structure of our retreats is made possible by a few factors.
Our overheads are lower by choosing retreat locations that come with minimal legal and bureaucratic red tape.
The retreat is also in part subsidized by tax-deductible donations made possible through our fiscal sponsor, Right to Heal.
Members of the staff may also include facilitators-in-training in non-leadership positions, reflecting our commitment to training and empowering as many healers as possible.
Who should NOT attend this retreat?
There are some folks who we are not set up to support at this time. They include:
- Individuals who are particularly dysregulated, frightened and/or in need of more gradual, one-on-one support;
- Individuals who need a lot of special exceptions or a highly controlled environment;
- Individuals who are unable to stop using substances like alcohol, cannabis, opiates, etc. for at least one week before the retreat begins and for the whole duration of the retreat;
- Those who need a very particular, strict diet (eg: dedicated gluten free kitchen, low FODMAPs, low histamine diets);
- Those who recently discontinued a psychiatric medication abruptly and have not fully stabilized;
- Those with entitled, socially preachy, or otherwise “high maintenance” personalities who are unwilling to examine these defense mechanisms;
- Those with medical contraindications to taking psychedelics
Can I get a discount? Do you offer payment plans?
Depending on how many donations we receive, we may have some scholarship opportunities available. Please inquire when you apply.
To donate to our scholarship fund – it’s tax deductible in the USA! – please click here.
We do offer payment plans, but the retreat fee must nevertheless be paid in full at least one month prior to the start of the retreat. The sooner you sign up, the more payment plan options will be available.
How do I pay for the consumables?
To stay in compliance with all rules and regulations, the retreat fee paid to Right to Heal does not include the medicine itself.
The medicine is transported, handled, and administered by a local curandero or marakame, whom you will pay directly. (We’ll provide more details upon registration, but don’t wory – it’s very affordable.)
What are "Container Agreements?"
Something that sets Right to Heal apart from other retreats is our emphasis on container.
“Container” refers to the safe and supportive space in which guests can express and explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
It’s an essential element to the healing process. For this reason, all participants are required to respect our Container Agreements, which include:
- Confidentiality. I will hold in confidence the identities of the other participants and the personal nature of their healing work. I will ask for permission before posting photos of others to social media.
- Touch. All touch offered and given this week will be non-sexual in nature. (Exception: already established partners attending the Event together may engage in consensual touch.) I will respect the boundaries of others and ask first before delivering hugs, shoulder rubs, etc.
- Premises. I agree to stay on the premises for the entire duration of the event, unless explicitly given permission by an Event Leader. I also agree to stay within the defined ceremony space during medicine-assisted Activities.
- Platonic Healing. I agree not to run romantic energy with anybody else at the Event, for the duration of the entire Event. (Exception: already established partners attending the Event together.)
- Self Care. I will ask for what I need and speak up when I feel unsafe. I will not participate in Activities that I deem to be harmful for my wellbeing.
- Safety. I understand that the safety word is “Safety.” When I hear this word, I will immediately stop whatever I am doing, focus, and follow instructions. This is for my own safety, as well as for the safety of others. Likewise, if I deem that something dangerous is occurring during the Activities, I understand that I can likewise call “safety.”
- Personal Growth. I remember that I am here for the purposes of healing and personal growth, and that such processes often entail confronting parts of myself and others that may be uncomfortable. I agree that the Event staff may remind me of this throughout the week, and understand that they may help me see when I am deflecting, projecting, or acting out of alignment.
- Group Healing. I understand that the healing that happens in groups is different than one-on-one or solo work. I agree to respect the process of other individuals, as it may be quite different than my own. I agree not to touch or speak to other participants during the Group Medicine Ceremony.
- Judgement. I will be mindful of my own judgements and projections as they arise, and when they do, I will choose kindness.
- Attitude of Learning. I understand that there is no such thing as perfection, and that the Event staff and other participants may say or do things I dislike. I understand that this is all part of the learning – both mine and theirs.
